Beginner Blog Marketing

Blogs or web logs have been around for a while now and some have bocome very popular and also very lucritive to some blog owners. So how do you create your own blog and use it to make money?

You might want to start using your blog as more of a web diary to start out.  Many people start their blogging doing this and a lot of times, making money is not the object for the blogger. They just want to put their thoughs out to the world and start discussions and share with others.

If you have never blogged before, you might just want to start journaling for a while to get your feet wet.

This will allow you to learn just what it takes and what it is all about to create your blog When you are just journaling your thoughts and what is on your mind, you have nothing to lose and nothing to gain. You don’t even have to make your blog public if you don’t want others to read what you have to say. That is a personal preference. However, doing this will let you see how it works.

As you gain more experience and comfort in your blogging, you can then move on to trying to market a product or a service. as part of your blogging adventure.

Which blogging software to use?

While there are different ways to create your blog site, I suggest you use WordPress to build your blog.  WordPress is the most common blog creating oftware in the world, 30% of blogs are created with WordPress.

WordPress is a full fledged content management sytem and offers many advantages, not the least are the thousands of “plugins” available to add additional features to your blog site – many of them FREE.  Using WordPress is somewhat like using a word processor.  WordPress has its own editor which can even be enhanced with a plugin like “Tiny MCE Advanced”, which I use to add additional features to my editor menu.

There are lots of free tutorials for WordPress that you can access.  Here are some avalable on Youtube:

There are other ways to learn how to use WordPress also.

I enjoy the classes offered at udemy.com a lot and there are several free ones you can take to learn WordPress.

Udemy offers discounts quite frequently. Check the ones for $9.99.

Creating your own blog, with your own paid domain can be the best way to set yourself up to earn money through affiliate marketing.  Affiliate marketing allows you to promote the products of other companies and earn commissions when a purchase is made through one of your “affiliate links”.

When you have your own blog, you are in charge of the content that is posted on it. You can decide what is said, and what is not. You are after all writing it all, right? So, the sky is the limit. Whether you want a blog that does website reviews and takes nominations, or you want to sell things that you make out of your home, the choice is yours. Using a blog to get the word out about whatever you want is a great way to market and promote something you love.

Blog marketing can get complicated if you let it but it is is really only as hard as you make it. While there are some bloggers out there that are making a six figure income with the use of blog marketing, and we all know that it can be done. We just want to know how.

Well, for any beginner, the thing is to start small, learn how, and be consistent. The six figure earning bloggers all did. They started with one, built it up, and then added another blog, built it up. Then, keeping up both blogs and not letting them fall behind, they continued to add more and more. Of course they had help learning how, and they outsourced a lot of their work. If you are looking to make a massive income with blogging, you will need some help too.

Blog building and marketing is a great thing to learn. If you can sell things from a blog, you can sell them anywhere. Making money by using a blog is one of the most satisfying things that you will ever learn how to do. Just do not expect to make money over night, know that you have to work at it consistently everyday, and remember to put into it what you want to get out of it.

Search engines love blogs, and are always pretty fast to index them. Getting yours out there for the world to see is not going to be hard.

Each time you create a new blog post, there are a number of things you need to do. The post needs to be shared to your appropriate social networks and groups, and you may want to consider sending a link to some customers or potential customers if you think they will find the topic useful. You can do this through collecting email addresses for your list of fans and visitors. If your website is created correctly, it will have an XML Sitemap that automatically updates itself and communicates new content to search engines like Google.  Creating your content with proper SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is important and this can be learned.

Depending on your overall goal with blog marketing, you can update your blog as frequently as you like. Which could be daily or weekly. The best frquency is to add good content 2 to 3 times every week This way your blog readers will know that they can check your blog frequently for new postings.

If you are wondering exactly what you can market in a blog, you can market whatever you want to. However, it is best to stay within one market or topic in your blog. If you have several different things that you would like to promote, and none of them really fit together well, you can create a blog for each niche market.  Remember that if the markets are not related, do not mix them on your blog. For example, if you have a blog on vacuum cleaners, you will not want to also mix in television sets on the same blog. This is because both vacuum cleaners and televisions sets are two different markets. But, you could mix vacuum cleaners and handheld mini dust busters. Make sense?

Typically, when deciding to create a blog, you pick a specific topic or “niche” to write about. This should be something you have a great interest in, and are even passionate about.  Maybe you love fishing, or kayaking, or runing, or hiking, etc.
There so many things that you can market in your blog that is related to any of these niches. (think, various equipment, clothing, shoes, howto books and training, magazines … you can create enless product reviews and recommended lists of products to recommend.)

Whether you want to sell your own products and services or someone else’s and make a commission off of what you sell (affiliate marketing), the sky is the limit when it comes to marketing. Affiliate links work great in blogs and signing up to sell other people’s products and then marketing them in your blog is a great idea and a way many bloggers choose to monetize their blog sites.

Blog marketing can be pretty effective if it is done right. However, you can’t just set up a blog and expect people to find it. Get your blog out there and make it known to others just as you would a website through social media, email lists and newsletters and different ad campaigns.   Exchanging links with others who have similar blog sites will help, so will article marketing using your blog and trading guest posts.

Blog marketing is easy and anyone that wants to can do it. Getting your blog out there and known will be your biggest challenge to drawing traffic to your blog site , but just know that the harder you work at it, the better it will pay off.

You can find sites that are related to your own niche and ask for link exchanges and or trading guest posts. You can market on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and other social networks.

Do a search in Google.com for sites related to the niche you have chosen and read them, checking out the type posts and products they market and how they market.
