“Creating content for your website”
As a member of the large Wealthy Affiliate Community (over 200,000 members), I see many posts from new members about how hard and how much they dread creating the content for their websites.
Content is necessary to have a website and in my experience in creating websites, writing content is something that seems to throw a hitch into most people’s gait. However my thoughts on this fear of writing is
“I’ve chosen a topic or subject for my website that I enjoy and have a passion about”, why should I dread writing about that passion?”
Most people enjoy talking about the things they enjoy and that includes myself. If I can talk about something, then I should be able to write about it also.
Writing blog content is basically “talking on paper.” You should write like you talk (maybe paying a little more attention to proper grammar and punctuation and losing any bad language).
Most of your online readers will read at the 3rd or 4th grade level, so simple words and descriptions will be very readable for them.
“Start with the facts”
Conversational writing is not that difficult if you pretend you are talking to a well known friend while you type. I have an artist friend who I’m building a website for and she is another one who says “I can’t write”, but we have long phone conversations and never run out of things to talk about on the subject of art and painting.
So I just tell her to send me the facts and I’ll massage them into content for her. She has no problem writing down the facts about herself and her art and neither will you if you make up your mind to simply write down the facts you want to blog about, as you understand them and then massage those facts to be readable by pretending to “talk to your paper (or keyboard).”

The important thing is to get started. As you mentioned, you are basically talking to a friend. People tend to relate to you when you write with honesty and they feel like you are talking to them instead of selling to them.
When you choose to create a website, you should pay attention to what you and your friends are talking about and create one based on your conversations with your friends.
Sounds like good advice Josh, thanks for your comment. Have a great day. Shirley
It really doesn’t have to be a big blockage in once pursuit to have a successful website. At first it is overwhelming, but just like what you have said that it is a casual conversation put in writing. Thanks a lot for the article, as it will be of great help to all of us.
Thanks Bernie, yes think natural conversation and it will help. Thanks for your comment. Shirley
I agree, writing is easier than you think as long as you keep your sentences short. And write about what you love!
Definitely picking a niche you love will help you have plenty to write about. Thanks for your comment. Shirley
Hi Shirley,
This is a really good post and so true.
Even for someone who loves writing as I do, there are still times when it’s like uuugh…how do I get this article completed!
I have found the best method is exactly what you say – write like talking to a friend or group of acquaintances. After a while of practicing in this way, the writing begins to take care of itself and you just need to go back over and edit it.
Thank you for this post Shirley and I wish you well.

Excuses are just that “an excuse” to fail or not do something. Thanks for your comment. Shirley
